Changes and Consistency: China's Media Market After WTO Entry
AbstractIn the backdrop of China's entry into WTO in 2001, this article discusses changes in China's media policies, recent developments in the market environment, and foreign investments. This article concludes that although it's still a tightly controlled media market, foreign media investors are making significant inroads into China, the WTO will not constitute an effective external driving force in the opening-up of China's media sector; and the increasing demands for more high quality programs may exert pressure on the authorities to open the door wider.
