Abstract

Contrary to recent economic models specific to the latest economic and social systems known, bio-economy is based on living mechanisms. It considers humanity as a living organism; human individuals are compared to the cells, firms, regions or states to tissues or organs, public services performing essential organic functions. Bioeconomy refers to sustainable production and conversion of biomass into a wide range of food, health, fiber, industrial products and energy. Renewable biomass can comprise any biological material considered as a product itself or that is to be used as feedstock. It can be said that bioeconomy is an alternative to the capitalist economy and a sustainable and successful bio-economy must be approached with consistent and integrated policy directions.
