On-the-job-training, job search and job mobility
Abstract
This paper analyzes the impact of formal training on worker mobility. Using data from the Swiss Labor Force Survey, we find that both general and specific training significantly affects on-the-job search activities. The effect of training on actual job mobility differs between searchers and non-searchers. In line with human capital theory, we find that specific (general) training has a negative (positive) impact on job mobility for previous non-searchers. For individuals who have been looking for a new job, the impact of (general and specific) training works via the increased likelihood of an actual change due to search, while there is no direct effect of training on actual job moves.Download Info
