Exploratory Analysis of the Demanded Professional Profile on Business Administration Degree: Implications for the Accounting Area
Abstract
The Bologna process in Spain will imply a modification in the syllabuses structure and programmes length of the present degrees. In our opinion this modifications are not isolated events, but part of a sequence in the debate on higher education quality. In higher education that implies the adjustment of the degrees to the demanded professional profiles. The present paper aims to analyse the educational needs perceived by business administration graduates of the University of Seville when developing their tasks, with a special interest in accounting contents. The objective of such analysis is to obtain guidelines for the redesign of syllabuses and programs. The results are potentially useful for other similar Universities in process of re-designing their syllabi. We use a multimethodological approach which is developed in several stages: a questionnaire and interviews to go deeply in the results. The results provide information on the importance, performance as well as indicators of the perceived educational gaps and information on the level and kind of subjects where those gaps should be addressed. Among main conclusions, finance and accounting are seen as essential contents, correctly covered at the moment, which should, at least, keep their weight in the future programmes.Download Info
