Where is the Place in Space?

Abstract

In this address, I want to explore a topic that I believe is just below the surface in many of our papers and presentations, but is only occasionally exposed for significant scholarly debate. That topic is place. My goal is to convince you that there is much more to the concept of place than is captured by the concept of space and to challenge our discipline to find a more prominent and explicit place for it in our theory and empirical work.
