Abstract

Este estudio se basa en una experiencia de Pago por Servicios Ambientales (PSA) hídricos en Jesús de Otoro, Honduras. Se estableció el impacto del PSA en la economía de los usuarios de servicios ambientales, así como el grado de cumplimiento de las condiciones del mercado. Para esto se plantearon seis escenarios para evaluar la capacidad de pago de los usuarios, dichos escenarios hacen uso de diferentes niveles de pagos y protegen distintas áreas dentro de la zona de recarga hídrica. Los resultados demuestran que el PSA no cubre el costo de oportunidad de la tierra y su incremento tendrá efectos negativos en la economía de los usuarios. De la misma manera, al incluir la zona de recarga hídrica y simultáneamente cubrir los costos de oportunidad a los proveedores se crean efectos adversos sobre el poder adquisitivo de los usuarios. Por último, se estableció que los motivos que impulsan la iniciativa están relacionados con aspectos sociales más que con condiciones puramente económicas.
