Abstract

El crecimiento explosivo de los derivados es, en parte, consecuencia de los profundos cambios inducidos por la desregulación financiera inicida hace cuarenta años y la enorme acumulación y concentración de la riqueza que se ha producido. Pero, al mismo tiempo, los derivados son un motor relevante de los cambios en el mundo financiero. Su gran potencialidad para el diseño de operaciones especulativas y el alto apalancamiento que es posible conseguir con esas operaciones, hacen de los derivados protagonistas de eventos en los que se producen tanto altas ganancias como formidables pérdidas. En la crisis financiera actual los derivados de crédito son una de las piezas importantes en los ataques especulativos contra la deuda soberana.
