Abstract

(The conception of man as homo oeconomicus is subject to criticism: on the one hand, this concept does not reflect reality; on the other hand, this role model encourages selfish behavior and justifies immoral actions. Although so-called behavioral anomalies, such as moral action or fairness have in recent times been emphasized by behavioral economists, these cannot provide an alternative basis for economic theory. Against this background, the role that morality plays in the behavior of homo oeconomicus will be considered, together with some thoughts on the ‘moral-evolutionary” development of the concept of economic man.)
