Abstract

[eng] Monetary policy strategies : a few lessons from the recent past and leads for the future. . Some lessons can be drawn from policy targets pursued by the central banks over the last ten years, which show a convergence on the final objective of price stability as well as a divergence on intermediary targets, together with a higher degree of pragmatism. In the ESCB's strategy perspective, an approach combining some elements of monetary targeting and of direct inflation targeting may be considered. In the longer run, central banks will be led to renew their strategies on account of changes in the concepts of money or even price stability, and to take into account new types of indicators.
