Abstract

[fre] Cet article est consacré à l'examen empirique du rôle de l'habitude de consommation sur la demande artistique. Dans un premier temps, à partir d'un modèle de capital humain, nous expliquons théoriquement pourquoi certains choix, comme celui d'aller à l'opéra, peuvent avoir des propriétés renforçantes. Ensuite, à l'aide de données transversales inédites, la probabilité de consommer différentes formes d'art est estimée avec un modèle logit. Les résultats montrent que l'expérience artistique acquise avec les parents, ainsi que la pratique dans le passé d'une forme d'expression artistique, sont des déterminants essentiels de la consommation courante de services culturels. [eng] Demand for arts and endogenous tastes. In this article, the influence of habit formation on the demand for arts is studied empirically. We first explain theoretically with a human capital model why some choices like going to the opera may have reinforcing properties. A logit model is then used to esti­mate the probability of consuming different art goods with new cross-section data. The results clearly show that early acquaintance with art in family as well as the practice in the past of an art form, are major determinants of the demand for art goods later on.
