Abstract

[eng] A savagian approach to industrial strategy. . Theoretical and empirical criticsms of Savage's paradigm of decision theory have provided no satisfactory basis for a rival theory. This applies both from the point of view of theory, since behaviorism in decision theory is a dead end, and, even more so, in the context of the firm. The fruitfulness of the Savagian approach lies in its capacity to produce a form of normative theory that is both consistent and credible given the peculiar constraints of the firm. We illustrate this line of thinking by a study, with both descriptive and normative scope, of the attitudes to risk of international oil companies.
