Abstract

[eng] Trends in market concentration :. The case of French manufacturing industries (1961-1969). . The authors use a methodology close to the one developed by Mueller and Hamm in an affempt to assert the influence of vacious determinants on the trends of concentration in the French manufacturing sector at the two digit and three digit /eue/. On the one hand, concentration on the supply side (C4) at the beginning of the period is negatively related to the variation of concentration between 1961 and 1969. On the other hand, economics of scale, absolute capital cost requirements (estimated through a method divised by Caves and Khalilzadeh-Shirazi) and differentiation have, ceteris paribus, a positive influence on tha dependent variable. The authors then discuss the implications for public policy of this study and of a previous research on interindustry diffenrences in profit rates.
