Abstract

[eng] Since 1949, in the area of St Segal, near Châteaulin (Finistère) four agricultural, economical and sociological surveys studied, in 1949, 1960, 1969, 1984 all the farm holdings located in this 3 000 ha area (150 estates in 1950, 64 in 1984). . Technical and economical changes are very important, as much as they have been for the whole agriculture of Brittany, especially between 1960 and 1974. Today, types of farms are many, due to differences between their products or their socio-economical structures. The ancient social links between farmers have been fading away. . Technical changes (machinery, shift of the male labour force towards animal husbandry, ...) seem to induce social change only with a big time-gap.
