Abstract

. Classification JEL : A23 [eng] The research in market finance . Promoting research in finance contributes to making financial places attractive. Comparing French research in finance with the American and British ones shows that France has a research of quality, capable of mobilising sophisticated mathematical and statistical tools. But French research is dependent - as actually most of the world’s research - on dissemination and evaluation networks based in the United States. The selection process of American reviews and conferences, though it may be contested, gives American researchers the advantage of organising a true market for research productions and thus to facilitate their financing. But the influence of this market goes beyond American borders. French research, in addition, is affected by specific shortcomings : the excessive segmentation of its branches, the lack of financial incentives for researchers and of financial means for research laboratories. Paris, as a financial center, could contribute to solving these two shortcomings. . JEL Classification : A23
