Abstract

[eng] Employment in the banking sector. From the point of view of employment, the banking sector is today characterised by continuous staff reduction. This situation dates back to the middle of the 80's, but its magnitude is slight when compared to the major changes in banking activities which began long before that period. In the face of crucial changes in their environment, credit institutions have implemented new tools enabling them to react quickly to new production and exchange conditions, thus doing away with forecasts which once viewed « the banking sector as tomorrow's steel industry ». The author describes these evolutions taking into account their length, complexity and context, while emphasizing problems met as regards human resources and solutions provided.
