Abstract

[fre] Résumé Christophe de Thou, père du célèbre historien, Jacques-Auguste, occupa la charge de premier président du parlement de Paris de décembre 1562 jusqu'à sa mort en 1582. Par sa présence dans les délégations du Parlement, sa participation au Conseil, sa correspondance quotidienne avec le souverain, ses contacts étroits avec l'échevinage parisien, Christophe de Thou joua un important rôle de médiateur entre le Parlement, la capitale du royaume et le pouvoir royal. Il fut un modéré qui resta attaché à des principes comme l'unité de la religion, la fidélité au monarque, la défense des libertés gallicanes, le respect de la tradition. Travailleur acharné, respecté de tous, ayant toute la confiance de Charles IX, de Thou fut le représentant illustre d'une haute magistrature en pleine ascension, et devint le modèle du premier président par excellence. [eng] Abstract Christophe de Thou, famous historian Jacques-Auguste' s father, was the first president of parlement of Paris from december 1562 to his death, in 1582, Present in the delegations of the Parlement, member of the Conseil, in correspondence with the king and in contact with the Parisian échevinage, Christophe de Thou played an important mediating role between the Parlement, Paris and the monarch. He was a moderate who sticked to principles like the unity of the religion, the fidelity to the king, the defense of the gallican liberties, the respect for the tradition. Hard-working, universally respected, a man whom Charles IX could trust, de Thou was the illustrious representative of this rising high magistrates, and became the model of the first president in the highest sense of the word.
