Abstract

[eng] Abstract Cross-sectional and longitudinal readings of the urban social structure provide apparently contradictory conclusions. Cross sections suggest a structural permanence and lack of mobility; whereas the study of individuals underlines their actual mobility. Furthermore, the two succeeding generations - both the 'Enfants de la Republique' and the 'Fils du Siècle' - do not show the same experience of a large city's mobility - residential, professional or social.
