Abstract

[eng] Abstract Under the blockade of the English fleet, the French part of Santo-Dominguo suffers from a quick and important decrease of the value of the local colonial products while at the same time the price of the commodities brought from France is more than doubled. The market behaves in a very unpredictable way, but the price of the colonial goods always remains under its usual value. In front of such a situation, the planters and the already heavily indebted créole merchants can not try anything but send, however they can, their produce in France, a great deal of which through the illicit trade, thanks to the numerous links existing between the english, the dutch and the french merchants.
