Abstract

[eng] The French and the Environment : From Intentions to Action . The environment is in the news as a fashion as well as a source of deep-seated anxiety. The French are satisfied with their living environment, but are concerned about the future of the planet. . French citizens are worried about elements that might directly compromise their "living space" and even their health. These misgivings are reflected in the "priority actions" that they would like to see undertaken : the fight against the pollution of natural elements such as air and water and the elimination of industrial waste. On the other . hand, threats such as global warming, which are a lot more difficult to evaluate immediately, are much less well understood. . Our fellow citizens' fears about the deterioration of the environment are reflected by a noticeable trend towards action. This willingness to act is limited as the asserted commitment weakens as soon as the proposed actions take on a restrictive character. Moreover, the French are sceptical and dissatisfied with the efforts made by the administration and private companies in this area.
