Abstract

[eng] What the French Think of Their Homes - Available housing has been renewed and its quality improved: new homes are larger and more comfortable. However, one household out of ten is considered to be residing in an inadequate home either because of a lack of living space or more often, a lack of comfort (for instance, plumbing or heating). . The opinions expressed by households reflect the objective characteristics of their homes, but they also reveal other drawbacks which are more or less tolerated: noisy . or unpleasant surroundings, and living a long distance away from the city centre or the work place. One household out of five wishes to move, particularly those younger than 40, tenants of collective buildings, above all those in large urban districts. . Those who would like to move often wish to become owners if this is not already the case (44% of apartment tenants and 55% of individual house tenants). Most tenants wish to have an extra room.
