Abstract

[eng] Industrial Enterprises are deeper in Debt in France than in other European Countries. . The Role of Commercial Debts - French industrial enterprises started to pay off their debts in 1985, later than those of other european nations. They still remain deep in debt, deeper than their european or Japanese counterparts. This relatively excessive debt is mostly due to institutional differences, since French industrial enterprises frequently resort to commercial indebtedness. On the other hand, as far as non commercial debts are concerned, the situation of France is similar to that ot its european partners and better than that of Japan. . The productive infrastructure has little effect on the financing of enterprises : for the same sector of activity, the debt ratio varies considerably from one country to the next. All in all, national characteristics are the best explanation for a country's attitude to indebtedness.
