Abstract

[eng] Industry in 1983 - French industry evolved in 1983 in an environment marked by foreign recovery and by a domestic austerity policy. The drop in domestic demand affected all industrial products. It brought with it a reduction in imports, while exports were increasing : the industrial surplus advanced by 30 billions francs. The growth of production (0.6 %) was insufficient to slow the drop in industrial employment. In a context of a general slowing of price evolutions, the competitiveness of industrial products, on the French market, profited from the advantages obtained from the readjustments of monetary parity. Everything points to an improvement of the financial situation of industrial enterprises, which was insufficient, however, to stimulate investment.
