Abstract

[eng] The Sporting Rifle : a Possession for Men and Country Dwellers - The opposition between « popular » hunting, practiced by a rural or semi-rural population, and « prestige » hunting, practiced by wealthy city dwellers, remains generally valid. As for the shotgun or hunting rifle, the necessary instrument of the hunter, it occupies a special position among the durable goods of households: it is the longest lasting item, the one most frequently received as a gift, and the least frequently bought on credit.
