Abstract

[eng] Industrial Sectors and their Workers - The adapting of employment to production follows different patterns, depending on the sectors of industry, their history, their geographical location, the size of firms and the characteristics of the work force they employ (level of skills, seniority in the firm, sex, nationality, age). This article is based on a survey taken at the time of the up-dating of the historical panorama of the French production system. From a meso-economic viewpoint (it treats sector statistical data), the article describes different management policies for blue-collar staff through a synthesis based on the opposition of « organized workers » and « unorganized ». It establishes a link between the « status » of workers and the time required for the adjustement of employment to production and poses the problem of the relationship between « status », skills, and mobility in the context of the crisis.
