Abstract

[eng] The Number of Households through the Year 2000 - By projecting the number of households through the year 2000 one also projects requirements for primary residences, that is, a significant segment of housing needs. Two types of factors, whose effects are not all equally well known, are taken into account in these estimates : demographic evolution, on the one hand, which is, in fact, already contained in the age pyramid and, on the other hand, the evolution of communal living habits, which is considerably more difficult to predict. This study concludes that the growth in the number of households, which was exceptionally rapid between 1968 and 1975 (280,000 per year) is destined to slow down considerably. The hypotheses reached in these projections foresee a progression of approximately 200,000 per year during the Vllth Plan (1981-1985) and of only 130,000 for the closing years of the century. If this forecast proves to be true, it will imply a significant reduction in housing requirements.
