Abstract

[eng] Rise in Guaranteed Minimum Wage (SMIC) and the Effects on the Mass of Salaries - This article attempts to point out the technical difficulties in measuring the immediate effects of salary increases on the mass of salaries following the readjustment of the basic minimum salary wage (SMIC). It is possible to give only empirical approximations drawn from what is known of the distribution of salaries in France during recent years. Thus, it was calculated that, given certain assumptions about the phenomenon of « contagiousness », the guaranteed minimum wage fixed at 2,400 francs a month (calculated on the basis of a 40 hour week) would result in a rise of 6.7 % of the mass salary on the 1st of April, 1978.
