Abstract

[eng] Between January, 1968, and January, 1971, wages in the private industrial and commercial sector have gone up by 35 %. The margin between wages in Paris and the Provinces has narrowed ans so has the margin between men's wages and women's wages. The differences between one branch and another over this three year period are not very marked. The earnings of operatives have increased more than those of executives and other categories. The number of wage-earners earning the « minimum wage » is estimated at 700 000 (out of 15,2 million). Civil service pay has increased by 32,9 %; special measures have been taken in favour of the lowest grades. It cannot yet be said whether the range of wages and salaries has narrowed lastingly.
