Abstract

[eng] Manpower prospects in 1980 by Hubert d'HEROUVILLE . The survey of population prospects in the industrialised countries carried oud mainly by the U.N.O. indicates a faster growth of total population in the United States, the U.S.S.R. and Japan than in the Western European countries. Since the percentage of population of working age is rising in the first three countries, while it is falling in the Common Market countries, the work force will increase much faster than in Europe. . Even if, on simple assumptions, the effect of migration is added to the purely demographic factors, the growth percentage of the group of the Six between 1965 and 1980 will be only about half that of Japan and one third that of the United States and U.S.S.R. These percentages, applied to basic figures of work force which are already dissimilar, will involve for these countries seven to nine times as much additional manpower, thus reinforcing the growth of their economic power.
