Abstract

[eng] Between 1962 and 1968, the number of persons in employment in France increased by 950 000. This increase results from the creation of 1 824 000 paid jobs, partly offset by the fall in employment in agriculture (—790 000) and the slight fall in non-wage-earners (—84 000). . The increase in the number of wage-earners is greater than forecast in building and tertiary activities. The growth of employment is small in industry. In the traditional branches (coal, iron, steel, textiles, clothing), there is even a fall. In contrast, the growth is fast in the motor industry, electrical engineering, the chemical industry, building materials. General government employees have increased by more than 25 %, under the influence of the increase in the number of teachers. A considerable increase is recorded in employment in banking and insurance. . The author compares these variations with those forecast under the Vth Plan.
