Abstract

F. Catherine Johnson affirms that gender-based violence undermines development efforts in such sectors as economic growth, HIV/AIDS, and child survival. Gender violence is an enormous cost to society. Johnson advocates for a comprehensive, multifaceted model to address the problem, including legal interventions, health approaches, public awareness and political will, illustrating this model with the interventions of USAID. Development (2001) 44, 125–128. doi:10.1057/palgrave.development.1110279
