Abstract

Shobha Raghuram and Manashi Ray examine the health standards for the poor in India within the broader context of human development concerns during the last decade, with special emphasis on the role of the state and its commitment towards achieving ‘health for all’. They discuss the response of civil society in issues of public health and in monitoring the accountability of the state, underscoring the need for reforms in the state services.
