Abstract

Le présent document passe en revue les études empiriques consacrées aux effets de l’éducation et du capital social sur la croissance. Il porte principalement sur les données relatives aux pays de l’OCDE, mais fait également un tour d’horizon rapide d’informations empruntées à l’économie du travail afin de préciser les aspects pour lesquels il peut être relativement utile d’utiliser des données macroéconomiques pour réaliser les travaux empiriques sur l’éducation. En définitive, les données internationales récentes tendent à montrer que l’éducation a sur la productivité des effets favorables au moins aussi importants que ceux recensés par les spécialistes de l’économie du travail. Les conséquences de cette situation sont également examinées. Enfin, le présent document examine la documentation nouvelle sur les avantages du capital social. Celle-ci se trouvant encore à un stade embryonnaire, il est d’autant plus difficile d’en dégager des conclusions pour l’action des pouvoirs publics.
