Abstract
Instruments for environmental management offer flexible solutions to polluters for solving environmental problems and the change of their behavior towards proactive, preventive approach.. These instruments may initiate changes in concepts, terminology and interpretation that is of fundamental significance for maintaining the way of sustainable development. Various instruments for environmental management have been developed and applied at different levels of production and consumption. Their purpose is to help enterprises in achieving their policies, tasks and objectives related to the environment. These instruments are called voluntary ones, since they are not the constituent part of legislation which requires compliance with the law in the area of environment.
