Abstract

Many significant changes have occurred in European border regimes ( e.g . visa and customs regulations) during recent years that have considerable consequences for people dealing with “the” border in their daily routines. The article discusses how far small-scale trade activities of petty traders and small entrepreneurs at the Romanian-Ukrainian border have changed and how these changes are related to an enforced EU external border regime and the preparation for fully joining the Schengen space. The aim of our paper is to demonstrate that this border, which is regulated as a uniform and common one, is not always enforced in the intended homogenous way.
