Stature, économie et migration au XIXe siècle : analyse comparée entre Haute-Vienne et Hautes-Alpes

Abstract

Nous proposons de comparer l’évolution synchronique de la stature en fonction de l’âge d’hommes appartenant à trois populations : des maçons migrants de Rancon (Haute-Vienne, Limousin), des agriculteurs sédentaires de l’Argentière-la Bessée (Hautes-Alpes, PACA) et des mineurs migrants italiens de l’Argentière-la Bessée. Ces données transversales ont été recueillies dans des livrets d’ouvriers délivrés dans la deuxième partie du XIX e siècle. Les groupes constitués sont de petits effectifs, concentrés sur des périodes chronologiques courtes et sur des zones géographiques très délimitées. Ces livrets nous informent également sur les professions et les migrations. Les résultats sont interprétés en fonction de facteurs mésologiques utilisés pour restituer les contextes socio-historiques.
