Public Administration and South: new contents of the gap

Abstract

Through time growing attention has been paid to the «new contents» of the development gap between the South of Italy and the rest of the Country; these deal with essential services nationally and locally regulated as well as the efficiency of Public Administrations. A substantial inefficiency of rules governing businesses and differentiated levels of Public Administration digitisation, however delayed in their implementation, cannot be underestimated as well. Nevertheless, the action of Public Administration seems strongly oriented to break such trend - indeed higher levels of transparency and efficiency in administrative action have been already observable. The risk is that too long testing times and different results between Central-Northern and Southern Italy lead to a substantial ineffectiveness of the interventions planned.
