Investimenti diretti esteri ed occupazione: l'esperienza italiana

Abstract

Il presente lavoro si propone di indagare la relazione tra investimenti diretti esteri (IDE) in attività industriali e la variazione dell'intensità di lavoro della produzione interna al paese di origine degli IDE stessi. L'analisi, riferita al nostro paese ed al periodo 1985-1995, è stata sviluppata in modo da stimare non solo gli effetti diretti sull'occupazione delle imprese investitrici all'estero, ma anche quelli indotti sull'occupazione relativa all'ambiente economico rilevante con cui l'impresa investitrice interagisce. I risultati principali dell'analisi empirica, condotta tramite un esercizio econometrico, suggeriscono come l'aumento di occupazione in attività produttive all'estero eserciti un impatto negativo sull'intensità di lavoro delle attività svolte nel paese di origine nel caso di investimenti verticali nei paesi meno sviluppati, mentre l'impatto risulta positivo nel caso degli investimenti orizzontali e "market seeking" nei paesi avanzati.
