Abstract

Economic development of regions is determined by the linkages and networks to external partners and to their own hinterlands. This paper discusses changes in the system of production, regional, international, and in a cross border perspective, based on a project investigating regional development in the Baltic Sea Regions. Theoretically, the concepts are based on economic integration and location. An analysis of the regional production system and the implication in the out-sourcing regions as well as in in-sourcing regions is presented. The results are summarised with regard to relocation, in border-areas, within the BSR and in a global perspective.
