Abstract

In this study, we identify the emergence of the European system of reference, irrespective of its narrative-argumentative configuration, in the program-articles of the first Romanian periodicals issued in the 19th century. Starting from the premise that the European argument appears with greater frequency during major changes (military conflicts, administrative reforms, legislative reforms, changes in the power structure), a distinct chapter also presents the emergence of the European system of reference in the newspapers and magazines edited immediately after 1989. The history of the media is the conceptual and methodological framework of this study.
