Crisis, Poverty and Agriculture in Indonesia

Abstract

Berbagai bukti yang ada telah menunjukkan bahwa dampak sosial dari krisis ekonomi yang meninpa Indonesia memang serius, tapi ternyata jauh lebih kecil dari yang ditakuti selama ini. Sektor pertanian merupakan faktor penting dalam meredam dampak sosial dari krisis ekonomi tersebut. Ditunjukkan dalam artikel ini bahwa sebaiknya kebijakan pemerintah dan bantuan internasional pada Indonesia tidak terfokus pada area dan sektor ekonomi yang paling parah terkena krisis dan dengan demikian mengabaikan daerah yang memang sebelumnya telah menjadi daerah miskin. Hal ini terutama menyangkut terutama daerah rural (pedesaan) dan wilayah timur Indonesia yang tetap menjadi kantong kemiskinan walaupun daerah-daerah ini bukan merupakan daerah yang terkena krisis paling parah.
