Operaciones fuera de balance y economías de escala en el sector bancario español

Abstract

La tendencia creciente hacia la diversificación de la producción en el sector bancario con un papel destacado de las operaciones fuera de balance suele asociarse a la obtención de ciertas ventajas de escala. En este estudio se estiman, por vez primera, las economías de escala en costes y beneficios considerando operaciones fuera de balance para el sector bancario español. Los resultados indican que, si bien se encuentran economías de escala en la expansión con operaciones fuera de balance, éstas son sensibles al tipo de operaciones consideradas, al tamaño de la entidad y al cambio tecnológico.
