Abstract

The paper follows a systematic process to identify and assess the potential social impacts that the proposed Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline may have in the Evros prefecture. Based on already existent analytical frameworks (IAIA, World Bank, IPIECA), the paper concludes that in the exception of spill risk, there are no significant negative side effects. However, the paper proposes specific mitigation measures that will be incorporated in the energy transportation project to avoid or minimise negative impacts during the construction-operation stages of the Burgas-Alexandroupolis oil pipeline.
