Abstract

This paper proposes a model that relates public funding, company size, technological intensity, permanent R%D, business group membership and corporate strategy to the likelihood that firms will cooperate in R%D. To test the validity of the model, we built a database of Spanish manufacturing firms with innovation activities based on the 'Survey on Technological Innovation of Enterprises 2000', conducted by the National Statistics Institute (INE) of Spain. The test showed that all variables have a positive effect on the likelihood of R%D cooperation, but medium-sized enterprises and enterprise groups that belong to the EU and outside of the EU showed no significant influence on the probability of cooperation.
