Abstract

This study proposes to primarily develop a measurement model of management competitiveness at the country level, and secondarily to evaluate its overall management capability through a series of literature review, expert interviews, panel discussions, and questionnaire surveys. The results indicated that among Southeast Asian countries, Taiwan and Singapore are in superior positions in terms of innovation capability, intraindustrial integration, financial capability, managers' competency and international operation. They are followed sequentially by Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines. The management capability of Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos are comparatively lower. The results also indicated that the flying geese model could be applied in such a way that management capability of developed countries may serve as a benchmark for the developing countries in Southeast Asia.
