Abstract

Este artigo tem por objectivo analisar a mobilidade geográfica em Portugal tendo como domínio de referência a distância da deslocação. Tanto quanto é do nosso conhecimento, este é o primeiro trabalho que aborda esta questão em Portugal. A análise é efectuada com base num modelo logit multinomial. Os resultados obtidos mostram que há um conjunto de factores referenciados na literatura que influenciam a decisão individual de mobilidade nomeadamente, a idade, a situação familiar, as diferenças de salários e o desemprego. Contudo, dadas as estimativas que obtivemos para as probabilidades de deslocação, pode-se concluir claramente que este mecanismo está longe de ser uma forma eficaz de ajustamento do mercado de trabalho em Portugal. Neste sentido, são apontadas algumas vias de actuação da política económica que podem melhorar a eficácia deste mecanismo de ajustamento.
