Il ritardo del Mezzogiorno come povert? tecnologica

Abstract

Nel presente contributo adottiamo una prospettiva di "contabilit? della crescita" per ricercare la fonte dei divari di produttivit? tra le regioni italiane e discriminare tra il ruolo giocato da capitale fisico, capitale umano e TFP. Vengono quindi comparati due diversi metodi: quello tradizionale dovuto a Klenow e Rodriguez-Clare (1997), Hall e Jones (1999) e Caselli (2005) e una nuova tecnica elaborata in Caselli e Coleman (2006). Il lavoro sottolinea come solo la seconda consente di distinguere appieno il ruolo della tecnologia e del capitale umano, poich? permette di distinguere tra i fattori che determinano lo skill premium. I risultati ottenuti mostrano come le differenze nella dotazione tecnologica appaiono spiegare la gran parte dei divari esistenti. Inoltre, l?analisi enfatizza l?esistenza di barriere all?adozione di tecnologie pi? efficienti nel Mezzogiorno.
