Crescimento econômico e liberdades: a economia política de Douglass North

Abstract

Nobel Prize Douglass North´s ideas have developed for a long time, since the beginning of the seventies to the end of the nineties. As his historical analysis developed, North became convinced of the positive relationship between economic growth and liberties. This paper tries to demonstrate that, notwithstanding the incompleteness of North´s analysis of modern democracies, North has established a research program to new analytical and historical developments, as he successfully characterized the bargain between state and society in the specification of property rights.
