Abstract

La Ley de Educación establece que los centros públicos de educación deben tener una biblioteca escolar. La utilización de las bibliotecas potencia la comprensión y la competencia lectora, esta es una competencia básica o competencia clave, es decir que forma parte de aquellas competencias que se consideran indispensables para el aprendizaje permanente y para una participación satisfactoria en la sociedad a lo largo de la vida. Las bibliotecas escolares, en su organización, deben seguir unas directrices para el registro, la catalogación, clasificación y exposición posterior del material, tanto librario como no librario.
