'Retrato de un perverso'. Taxidermia y necrofilia en la obra fotográfica de Joel Peter Witkin

Abstract

Este artículo reflexiona sobre la obra del fotógrafo norteamericano Joel Peter Witkin y en particular su trabajo relacionado con la muerte, desde el cual 'profana' el estatuto social del cadáver, situándolo como protagonista de un espectáculo macabro, donde se esboza a su vez, la figura de un artista posmoderno que opera desde los límites de la legalidad. Witkin no repara inclusive, en hacer de sus 'modelos' pedazos cercenados y amputados de cuerpos humanos como cabezas decapitadas, todas y todos, trágicas evidencias de la 'muerte violenta'. A través de una estética de lo perverso, con una cuidada calidad formal, la operación artística se valida en la exquisita vacuidad de la apariencia, en donde el cadáver deviene 'objeto sin nombre' y sin procedencia.
