Abstract

This paper analyses the determinants of urban poverty in Bolivia from the perspective of access to human, physical and social assets markets. The role of social capital in particularly remarked as an intermediate element with respect to other assets. Longitudinal analysis suggest that household income is mainly determined by human capital, labor market participation and location patterns. Cross-section analysis finds that there is a negative correlation between the probability of being poor and the social capital endowment, as measured by the size of family and community networks. This assay also analyses the effect of social capital utilization in informal credit and labor markets, and the cross effect between human and social capital endowments in high and low education returns groups.// En este estudio se analizan los determinantes de la pobreza urbana en Bolivia desde la perspectiva del acceso a los mercados de activos humanos, físicos y sociales.
